My work deals primarily with the cycle of life in nature, as represented through various forms of connection embodied in the form of the horse. My influences are drawn partly from the Woodland tradition of painting as well as illustration and combines the concept of interconnection between animate and inanimate things. Another aspect of my work deals with the idea of connection through energy. In the Chinese tradition, energy (qi) is usually associated with medicine and acupuncture and is a healing force that keeps our bodies in check if it is balanced properly, with our bodies having a centre where this energy can be harboured. Horses have been a big part of my life growing up and have had a lot of influence on me and as a homage to that, these pieces were painted. -Lauren Ashley
